Underwriters Laboratories, currently UL Solutions, Inc., was founded in 1894 to test products for fire and electrical safety for insurance companies. Today it tests and certifies everything from building materials and designs, to small appliances, fire and burglar alarm systems, electronics, and even water quality and food safety.
