It is a sequel to Shakespeare's plays Henry IV, Part 2 and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Most of the characters are carried over from the two Shakespeare plays. There are two distinct versions of the play. The first, recorded here, was published in 1760, and is a serious play with a plot to kill Henry V of England. This play was not well received when presented in 1766, and so a completely revised version was prepared
