English librarian, antiquary, and journalist (1846–1913)
William Edward Armytage Axon was an English librarian, antiquary, journalist, bibliographer, and vegetarianism activist. He worked on the literary staff of the Manchester Guardian for about 30 years and contributed to the Dictionary of National Biography under the initials W. E. A. A. Axon wrote on the history, literature, dialect, folklore, and antiquities of Lancashire and Cheshire, and served as president of the Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society. He was also active in the Vegetarian Society, serving as vice-president, honorary secretary, treasurer, editor of the Vegetarian Messenger, and president from 1911 until his death.
