Overview
OpenMind Library allows users to contribute content and metadata to the platform. To maintain a legally compliant and trustworthy service, all uploads must follow strict guidelines.
Our platform primarily indexes and provides access to content from external sources, and may store limited user-submitted data where applicable.
Users are fully responsible for ensuring they have the legal right to upload and share any content.
OpenMind reserves the right to remove or restrict access to any content that violates copyright laws or our policies.
What You Can Upload
You may only upload content if you have the legal right to distribute it. Eligible content falls into these categories:
1. Public Domain Works
- Works published before 1928 (in the United States)
- Works by authors who died more than 70 years ago (varies by country)
- US government publications
- Works explicitly released to the public domain
2. Creative Commons Licensed Works
- Works under CC0 (public domain dedication)
- Works under CC BY (attribution required)
- Works under CC BY-SA (attribution and share-alike)
- Other CC licenses that permit redistribution
3. Your Own Original Works
- Content you have created and own the rights to
- Works you wish to share freely with the community
4. Other Open-Licensed Content
- Content under other licenses that permit free redistribution
- Must include license information and attribution
Availability and legality of content may vary depending on jurisdiction. Users are responsible for compliance with local copyright laws.
What You Cannot Upload
The following content is strictly prohibited:
- Copyrighted commercial works (recent books, bestsellers, etc.)
- Pirated content of any kind
- Content with All Rights Reserved that you don't own
- Content with unclear or disputed rights status
- Content that you do not have explicit rights to distribute, even if it is freely available elsewhere online
- Scanned copies of copyrighted books
- Content that violates any laws or regulations
- Malware or harmful files
Required Information
When uploading, you must provide:
- Title and Author: Accurate metadata for the work
- Rights Status: Clear indication of the content's legal status
- Source: Where you obtained the content (e.g., Project Gutenberg, LibriVox)
- License Information: For CC-licensed works, the specific license and attribution
- Rights Confirmation: Your acknowledgment that you have the right to upload
The Review Process
- Submission: You upload content and provide all required information
- Queue: Your upload enters the moderation queue
- Review: Our team verifies the rights status and metadata
- Decision: Upload is either approved, rejected, or returned for corrections
- Publication: Approved content may be made accessible via the platform or linked to external sources
Review Criteria
During review, we check:
- Verification of public domain status or license
- Accuracy of provided metadata
- Proper attribution for licensed works
- File quality and format compliance
- Absence of malware or harmful content
Rejection Reasons
Uploads may be rejected for:
- Copyright concerns or unclear rights status
- Inaccurate or incomplete metadata
- Poor quality files
- Duplicate content already in the library
- Violation of our terms of service
Consequences of Violations
Uploading prohibited content may result in:
- Immediate removal of content without prior notice
- Removal of the content
- Warning on your account
- Temporary suspension of upload privileges
- Permanent account termination for repeat violations
- Potential legal action in severe cases
